Intensity Quotient

What’s your Intensity quotient?

Do you know the story of a young man who learnt the secret of success from Socrates in a hard way?  Socrates took him to the river and just plunged his head into the water till he almost became unconscious. When Socrates pulled him out, he asked the young man what he needed the most.  It had to be obviously Air and nothing else. If we need success in our life as badly as the air that the young man wanted, we will get it.

Intensity index is the amount of tenacity that you carry to achieve something. Its how determined are you in achieving your goal in spite of all the odds.  If you are determined, you will bulldoze the obstacles and find out the ways and means of doing it.  You will be resourceful, you will slog, you will not externalize the reasons for failure and finally you will accomplish it. You will never quit.  we will never need any external motivation.

Those who have been very successful in their chosen career have brought in a very high amount of Intensity quotient which can be measured in term of the how much hard work they have put it.

Let us look at some of these high achievers with high intensity index?

Magnus Carlsen – He became the youngest world-champion in Chess by beating Viswanathan Anand in 2013.  He was just 21 year then.  What many possible do not know is he was practically living on playing chess though he comes from a country where chess is not a famous / well-known sport. By the time he was 15 years, he had put in 15,000 hours of practice which is huge. Imagine what it takes to hit that no at the age of 15 and what more he could have practiced by the time he was 21.  It would not have been possible with a weak desire or wish.

Bill Gates – We all know him as a college drop-out who founded the US 3.6 Billion organization. What many do not know is, he got into real-time programming by the time he was in 8th Grade. When he was 16, he completed 1575 hours of computing in 7 months.  He did non-stop programming for 7 consecutive years by the he was just 20 years. (Source –Outlier by Malcolm Gladwell)

Beatles- They were the best-selling band in history with estimated sales of over 600 million records world-wide.  They did 270 performance in 18 months that is equal to 1620 hours. 1200 live stage shows in 4 years that is equal to 8400 hours. (Source –Outlier by Malcolm Gladwell)

All successful people in any profession carry high amount of intensity.  If we go back and see anything that we achieved outstandingly in our life, we would have had a very strong determination to do it. We would have wanted to do it as badly as the air the young man wanted.

Weak desires will perish. Strong intensity will pave way for success.
